The feud between Spencer Pratt and Lauren Conrad on The Hills was one of the core elements of the show, but as it turns out the real reason behind their rift might not have been what viewers were showed.
During the show, viewers were shown that a sex tape rumour landed Spencer Pratt into the role of being the villain for The Hills, however Spencer claims the end of Lauren’s relationship with Brody Jenner started their feud.
During an appearance of Amanda Hirsch’s Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Spencer explained what wasn’t shown on the show, as exclusively revealed to E! News.
He revealed: “Brody couldn’t fake-date L.C. anymore. He wanted to start getting some real clout.
“He was out in the club scene, there was a lot of opportunities, and then once the fake dating ended and he wasn’t down for that, she wanted her wing woman back.”
The wing woman in question was Lauren Conrad’s then bestie, Heidi Montag, who is now Spencer’s wife and who during the show tried to maintain relationships with both Lauren and Spencer.
However, Spencer Pratt revealed one key moment that never aired on The Hills that marked the start of his fallout with Lauren.
He recalled: “The final end game was, they didn’t show this, but she made Heidi go out with her on Valentine’s Day when we were official.
“Wouldn’t let her leave till like 4 a.m. They’re f**king having breakfast pizza together and [Heidi’s] like, ‘I gotta go back and see Spencer.’ And [Lauren] turned it into this big thing.”
Spencer then alleged that when Heidi moved out of the apartment she shared with Lauren during the season two finale, that Lauren thought she was quitting the show for good.
He claimed: “[Lauren] thought that with Heidi getting in the U-Haul and leaving, she thought she got Heidi off the show.
“That’s what people don’t get. That was her saying, ‘Bye b***h, you’re off my show.’”
In the end both he and Heidi decided to embrace their status as resident villains on The Hills, as Spencer Pratt added: “The deal was, ‘You better make them look like the worst people on the earth,’ which we are aware of.
“They’re, at that point, paying so much you’d be stupid not to go along with it. So that’s what happened.”
