Kerr County, TX — A summer meant for memories turned into a nightmare after catastrophic flash flooding ripped through Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ camp along the Guadalupe River. As of this morning, at least 23 girls remain unaccounted for following the overnight storm.

Heavy rainfall — estimated at 10 to 12 inches in just hours — caused the Guadalupe River to overflow, swallowing cabins, walkways, and parts of the camp. Some girls were reportedly swept from their bunks, while others climbed into trees to escape the rising water.

“My niece is one of the missing. I’m praying she’s holding on somewhere,” one woman posted on social media.

Officials stress that “missing” does not mean lost — many of the girls may be stranded or unable to communicate due to power, Wi-Fi, and cell service outages.

💔 What We Know So Far:
• 23 girls are missing. Families have been notified individually.
• At least 13 people have d*ed across Central Texas due to this storm system.
• FEMA, Texas National Guard, and U.S. Coast Guard are actively searching.
• Rescue helicopters and dive teams are combing the riverbanks and treetops.
• Some girls were rescued miles downstream and are recovering.

Camp Mystic’s Status:
The beloved all-girls camp sits near Hunt, TX, and has been running for generations. The campgrounds were hit hard, with cabins destroyed, roads washed out, and communication lines cut. Those rescued are being taken to local reunification centers by boat, helicopter, and emergency vehicles.

“We are not giving up,” said Kerr County Sheriff Larry LeLeux. “We believe many of these girls are alive and just waiting to be found.”

Ongoing Rescue Efforts:
More than 500 personnel are on the ground, with drones, K9 units, divers, and air rescue teams deployed along the Guadalupe River. Families are being urged to stay away from the area as roads remain dangerous.

Rain is expected to return over the next 24 hours, possibly complicating search efforts.
