In heartbreaking news that has sent shockwaves through the football world, Liverpool’s Portuguese forward Diogo Jota has tragically lost his life in a car crash near Zamora, in northwestern Spain. The devastating accident, reported by Spanish state media on Thursday, also claimed the life of his younger brother, André, aged 26.
Jota was just 28 years old—a rising star on the pitch, a loving father of three, and a newlywed. Less than two weeks ago, he had married his longtime partner Rute Cardoso in a beautiful ceremony in Porto, Portugal. The couple had only recently shared their joy on social media, with Rute captioning a wedding photo, “My dream came true,” and Jota replying, “I’m the lucky one.”
According to early reports, the Jota brothers were traveling together when their car veered off the road in the province of Zamora. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
